Fiction succeeds when it provides something that the audience is missing in their lives. The more of this, the more success. While there is a minority who are masochists, most people do not actually enjoy being beaten up by their media. Right now, with the way the world is, everyone is suffering and lacking joy and happiness and light and hope. Comedy is hard to find, cuteness is being destroyed, etc. Yuri always falls under this for a primarily men audience.
Media serves as an escape mechanism. Unconscious stress relief. Provide a good place, a good universe and narrative that people can forget their worries inside for a while, and you’ll get all the readers. A percentage of them will even comment.
If you want to make the chance of comments go up, without antagonizing them in a way that actually matters, antagonize the audience. Make something controversial in story, not real life controversial but in your world controversial. People will flood the comments. Mystery tends to do this too.
